About The Alaska Field Guide
Alaska's Outdoor Directory
Why We Built This
We built The Alaska Field Guide to be the resource we wished existed — a straightforward, honest directory of fishing charters, hunting outfitters, and wilderness lodges across Alaska.
Planning an Alaska outdoor trip is harder than it should be. Information is scattered across outdated websites, fishing forums, and word-of-mouth networks that most first-timers don't have access to. We built a single place where you can find the right operator for your trip without wading through noise.
What We Cover
Fishing Charters
Halibut, salmon, rockfish, and combination trips across Alaska's major fishing ports — Homer, Seward, Kodiak, Ketchikan, Sitka, Juneau, and more. Shared charters and private boats.
Hunting Outfitters
Alaska guides and registered outfitters for brown bear, moose, caribou, Dall sheep, and Sitka blacktail deer. Non-resident big game hunting requires a licensed guide for brown/grizzly bear, Dall sheep, and mountain goat — always confirm an outfitter's current license before booking.
Wilderness Lodges
Remote fly-in lodges, float camps, and wilderness properties across Alaska — from Bristol Bay to Southeast. Day-use lodges, all-inclusive packages, and cabin rentals.
Who's Behind This
The Alaska Field Guide is built by a small independent team that researches operators so you don't have to dig through scattered websites, outdated forums, and word-of-mouth to find them. Planning an Alaska trip is confusing enough — our job is to put the options in one place, honestly, so you can choose and book with confidence.
How This Directory Is Built
We want to be straight about what we do and don't do, so you can book with clear eyes:
- 1
Compiled from public sources
We build each listing from the operator's own website, booking pages, and public records — captain, vessel, species, trip types, and rates, entered and organized so you can compare in one place.
- 2
Credentials listed, not certified
Where operators publish licenses or credentials (USCG captain's license, ADF&G registered guide-outfitter, etc.) we show them as stated. We are not a licensing authority and do not audit government registries — always confirm current status yourself before booking.
- 3
Contact on file
Listings show the phone number and website the operator publishes. We don't continuously monitor them, so call ahead to confirm they're active and available.
- 4
Kept reasonably current
We update and remove listings as we learn of changes. Spot something wrong or out of date? Email us and we'll fix it.
Are you an operator? Submit or correct your listing through our listing request page.
Disclaimer
The Alaska Field Guide is an independent directory. We are not affiliated with any government agency, the Alaska Department of Fish & Game, the US Coast Guard, or any individual operator listed on this site. Listings are provided for informational purposes. Always verify operator licenses and credentials directly before booking.
