Sitka blacktail deer are the most accessible big game animal in Alaska. Southeast Alaska's Alexander Archipelago and Kodiak Island support enormous deer populations, with no guide requirement for non-residents and no license lottery. Deer hunting by skiff through Southeast Alaska's island chain — jumping off in bays and hunting the timber edges — is one of Alaska's best-kept secrets among the hunting community.
