Black bear hunting in Alaska is underrated and underutilized by non-residents. Unlike brown bear, non-residents can legally hunt black bears without a licensed guide in most Alaska game units. Southeast Alaska, with its rich estuaries and salmon-fed bears, produces exceptional black bears. Bear density in some coastal drainages rivals anywhere in North America.
