Elfin Cove straddles the boundary between Cross Sound and the open Gulf of Alaska on the northern tip of Chichagof Island, 85 miles west of Juneau, giving charter captains here direct access to some of the richest mixed-species grounds in Southeast Alaska. The outer-coast halibut and king salmon fishing is exceptional: kings migrating from the Gulf to rivers throughout the Pacific Northwest funnel through these waters in dense concentrations, and halibut over 200 pounds are caught regularly. The village has fewer than 25 year-round residents and is accessible only by floatplane or boat.

Cold Bay sits at the base of the Alaska Peninsula roughly 600 miles southwest of Anchorage, adjacent to Izembek National Wildlife Refuge and its lagoon system, one of the most productive eelgrass beds in the world. Small streams north and south of Cold Bay produce coho salmon fishing that local operators describe as among the best on the Peninsula, with Pacific halibut and Dolly Varden rounding out the saltwater and inshore options. This charter runs from Juneau out to the nutrient-rich waters of Icy Strait, where strong tidal currents concentrate king and coho salmon and flat-bottom halibut ground sits within practical reach. Icy Strait is famously productive—a 482-pound halibut was landed there in 2014—and humpback whales are a frequent sighting along the route. The longer transit from Juneau compared to Hoonah-based operators is offset by access to multiple species in a single day.
