klawock, Alaska
Klawock-based fishing charters on Prince of Wales Island — saltwater king salmon and halibut plus Klawock River coho, all on an island with an extensive road network unique in Southeast Alaska.
elfin cove, Alaska
Elfin Cove straddles the boundary between Cross Sound and the open Gulf of Alaska on the northern tip of Chichagof Island, 85 miles west of Juneau, giving charter captains here direct access to some of the richest mixed-species grounds in Southeast Alaska. The outer-coast halibut and king salmon fishing is exceptional: kings migrating from the Gulf to rivers throughout the Pacific Northwest funnel through these waters in dense concentrations, and halibut over 200 pounds are caught regularly. The village has fewer than 25 year-round residents and is accessible only by floatplane or boat.
cold bay, Alaska
Cold Bay sits at the base of the Alaska Peninsula roughly 600 miles southwest of Anchorage, adjacent to Izembek National Wildlife Refuge and its lagoon system, one of the most productive eelgrass beds in the world. Small streams north and south of Cold Bay produce coho salmon fishing that local operators describe as among the best on the Peninsula, with Pacific halibut and Dolly Varden rounding out the saltwater and inshore options. Access is exclusively by air — Alaska Airlines serves Cold Bay with regular jet service — and most anglers combine fishing with the area's exceptional waterfowl hunting in fall.

ketchikan, Alaska

sitka, Alaska
Sitka-based charter operation targeting king salmon in the nutrient-rich waters of Sitka Sound, Salisbury Sound, and the outer coast, with full-day and multi-day options.
juneau, Alaska
Departing from Auke Bay Harbor 12 miles north of downtown Juneau, this charter targets halibut on the deep grounds of Stephens Passage and king and silver salmon that stage along Douglas Island and in Fritz Cove. Juneau sits at the intersection of major migration corridors, making it possible to fish both species in the same trip from late May through September. Half-day and full-day options are available for anglers of all experience levels.
juneau, Alaska
Taku Glacier Charters runs into Taku Inlet, a dramatic fjord 26 miles southeast of Juneau backed by the advancing Taku Glacier—one of the few glaciers in Alaska that is still growing. The inlet supports strong runs of king and sockeye salmon, and the remote setting offers wildlife viewing including mountain goats and brown bears along the surrounding ridgelines. Access is by motorboat or floatplane, giving the trip a wilderness character hard to match from downtown Juneau.
juneau, Alaska
This charter runs from Juneau out to the nutrient-rich waters of Icy Strait, where strong tidal currents concentrate king and coho salmon and flat-bottom halibut ground sits within practical reach. Icy Strait is famously productive—a 482-pound halibut was landed there in 2014—and humpback whales are a frequent sighting along the route. The longer transit from Juneau compared to Hoonah-based operators is offset by access to multiple species in a single day.
petersburg, Alaska
Petersburg-based sportfishing operation targeting king salmon, silver salmon, and halibut in the Frederick Sound and Wrangell Narrows area, one of Southeast Alaska's most productive fishing corridors.
gustavus, Alaska
Based in Gustavus at the mouth of Glacier Bay, this operation targets the king salmon that pour through Icy Strait from the Gulf of Alaska on their way to rivers throughout the Pacific Northwest—concentrating fish from hundreds of river systems into one passage. Coho, halibut, and rockfish round out the season from June through September. The short run to the fishing grounds and sheltered inside waters make Gustavus one of the most comfortable launching points for big-fish saltwater charters in Southeast Alaska.
petersburg, Alaska
Runs fishing trips through the scenic Wrangell Narrows and into Frederick Sound for halibut and salmon, with the option of crab fishing add-ons during the appropriate seasons.

Rockfish are Alaska's most underrated sport fish. Yelloweye rockfish — bright orange with enormous eyes — can live over 100 years and are found in some of the most beautiful rocky structure in the world. Black rockfish school aggressively and provide constant action on lighter tackle. Southeast Alaska, with its deep fjords and rocky reefs, produces exceptional rockfish action.
