Aaron Mahoney was born and raised in Ninilchik and started decking on his father Tom's boats in 1994; today he owns and captains the operation, which ran for 30 years as Alaska Gulf Coast Expeditions before recently rebranding as Alaska Coastal Outfitters — same crew and same water, only the name changed.
The fleet includes three 30-foot six-passenger boats — Independence, Liberty, and Gambler — with low-emission twin outboards, plus the Bear, a 55-foot Hoquiam with 11 bunks, water-making ability, and laundry for multi-day trips. Trips cover halibut and salmon fishing and deer hunting expeditions along Alaska's North Gulf Coast, with USCG-licensed, CPR-certified captains. Mahoney's son Rowan has earned his Coast Guard license and steps up as a captain in summer 2026.
