Copper River Fly Fishing

Cordova, Alaska

The Copper River Delta near Cordova holds one of the largest contiguous wetland systems in the Western Hemisphere, with productive fly fishing for coho salmon in Alaganik Slough and its tributaries, and Dolly Varden and cutthroat in smaller streams accessible off the Copper River Highway. Because the mainstem Copper is heavily glacially turbid, guides focus on clear-water side channels and sloughs where salmon stage and are visible to fly anglers. Access to the best water typically requires a boat, as road-end access is limited.
