About Alaska Challenge Guide Service

Alaska Challenge Guide Service is run by Craig Hill, a 36-year resident of Galena who took his first moose at age thirteen just five miles from the operation's permanent hunting camp and has been guiding since 1997. He calls the country his backyard and says he'll hang up his hat the day guiding becomes a job instead of a passion.

Hunts cover grizzly, brown, and black bear, moose, caribou, and mountain goat, run as a deliberately small operation from a permanent base camp plus temporary camps with heated wall tents and cabins, reached by jet boat, Argo, or snowmachine depending on the season.

Season & Booking

Alaska hunting seasons vary significantly by Game Management Unit and species. Confirm current seasons with ADF&G and book well in advance — quality outfitters fill 6–18 months ahead for peak species. Non-residents must be accompanied by a licensed guide or qualifying Alaska resident for most big game species.
