Petersburg boat-based hunts since 1996 with Master Guide Eli Lucas, a fifth-generation Alaskan, for bear, goat and blacktail in the Tongass.
Alaska Coastal Hunting has operated out of Petersburg since 1996 under owner Eli Lucas, a Master Guide with 30 years guiding hunters in the Southeast Alaska rainforest. Lucas is a fifth-generation Alaskan of part Tlingit heritage who grew up hunting and trapping in the region, learned from taxidermist Clint Fick as a boy, and was hired by guide Ben Forbes at age 20.
Hunts run from a 50-foot boat with warm bunks and hearty meals, working three territories in the Alexander Archipelago and Tongass National Forest under a Forest Service special use permit. Species include brown and black bear, mountain goat, Sitka blacktail deer and wolf, with seasonal sea duck add-ons and steelhead, salmon and saltwater fishing; parties are kept small at two to four hunters.
