About Devils Mountain Lodge

Devils Mountain Lodge sits at Mile 42 Nabesna Road in Nabesna, on the quiet side of the Wrangell Mountains. It was established in the 1950s by Bill and Lorene Ellis, Texans who came north for a better life — Bill a pioneer bush pilot and guide who built a hunting business for Dall sheep, moose, and bear, Lorene the backbone of the operation who learned wilderness survival from Athabascan native Jack John.

Their youngest son Kirk Ellis, raised at Nabesna from age two, now owns the lodge with his wife Gennie. Kirk has thousands of hours of Alaska flying time and over 40 years in the guiding business, and several of their children still work in the family operations. The lodge runs bed-and-breakfast stays, guided hunts with licensed professionals, and trail adventures in the Wrangells.

Season & Booking

Alaska hunting seasons vary significantly by Game Management Unit and species. Confirm current seasons with ADF&G and book well in advance — quality outfitters fill 6–18 months ahead for peak species. Non-residents must be accompanied by a licensed guide or qualifying Alaska resident for most big game species.
