About Hidden Alaska Guides and Outfitters

Hidden Alaska Guides and Outfitters is run by Master Guide Mike 'Buck' Bowden (license #M-80), who moved to Nome at 14 in 1970 and began guiding hunters in 1974. He homesteaded a remote stretch of Alaska in 1976 — living six years in a 14-by-14 dirt-floored cabin more than 30 miles from the nearest person — and his background spans trapping, horse packing, river rafting and work as an Alaska Fish and Wildlife enforcement officer; he is also a commercially rated pilot with seaplane credentials. The lodge sits on that original homestead.

Hunts cover Dall sheep, moose, brown/grizzly and black bear, caribou, wolf and wolverine over 10 to 18 days — spot-and-stalk, calling, float trips, lodge hunts and spike camps, rifle or bow. Bowden is a fair-chase traditionalist: the 'old ways' are proven effective and still work.

Season & Booking

Alaska hunting seasons vary significantly by Game Management Unit and species. Confirm current seasons with ADF&G and book well in advance — quality outfitters fill 6–18 months ahead for peak species. Non-residents must be accompanied by a licensed guide or qualifying Alaska resident for most big game species.
