About Joey Klutsch's Aniakchak Guide Service

The service was founded in 1976 by Joe Klutsch Sr. (1947–2024), who started out taking fishermen on the Naknek River before building a big game guiding business. It is now run by his son, Master Guide Joey Klutsch, a second-generation guide who grew up in the profession working alongside his father.

Based in King Salmon, the outfit runs wilderness fair-chase hunts for brown bear on Kodiak Island and the Alaska Peninsula, plus Dall sheep, grizzly, moose, mountain goat, Sitka blacktail deer, caribou, and wolf, in country that includes the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge, the Brooks Range, and Aniakchak National Preserve.

Season & Booking

Alaska hunting seasons vary significantly by Game Management Unit and species. Confirm current seasons with ADF&G and book well in advance — quality outfitters fill 6–18 months ahead for peak species. Non-residents must be accompanied by a licensed guide or qualifying Alaska resident for most big game species.
