About Kodiak Brown Bear Guides – Larsen Bay
Larsen Bay Lodge was founded in 1979 by Frank Carlson, born in nearby Karluk with a father and grandfather from the same corner of Kodiak Island; he also served as mayor and tribal council president. His son Mike Carlson, an Alaska registered big game guide and Koniag Native Corporation shareholder, has run the lodge since taking over from his father in the mid-1980s, and Mike's son Frank now guides with a Coast Guard master license and an assistant guide license.
The lodge offers limited spring and fall Kodiak brown bear hunts, Sitka blacktail deer, duck, and fox hunting, and fishing for all five salmon species, steelhead, halibut, lingcod, and rockfish. It has grown from six clients to 24 guests and runs on its own hydroelectric plant.
