About Rohrer Bear Camp

Rohrer Bear Camp is a family operation on Kodiak Island founded by master guide Dick Rohrer, who came to Alaska in 1964 and has guided on Kodiak since 1969. His son Sam Rohrer — also a master guide, born and raised in Kodiak, and in the field at his father's camp from childhood — has guided hunters since 1998 and bought the camp with his wife Sarah in 2015.

The camp hunts brown bear, mountain goat, and deer, and also runs fishing and wildlife viewing. Trips stay small, with one guide per hunter, and Sam serves as president of the Alaska Professional Hunter Association.

Season & Booking

Alaska hunting seasons vary significantly by Game Management Unit and species. Confirm current seasons with ADF&G and book well in advance — quality outfitters fill 6–18 months ahead for peak species. Non-residents must be accompanied by a licensed guide or qualifying Alaska resident for most big game species.
