The Karluk River on western Kodiak Island is one of the most historically significant salmon rivers in the world — it once produced millions of sockeye annually and was the site of Alaska's first salmon cannery. Today it remains a premier destination for fly-in king, sockeye, and silver salmon fishing with virtually no roads and few visitors.
