About Apex Lodge & Charter

Apex Lodge & Charter in Pelican was founded in 2018 by Captain Ephraim Lohrey and Shane Ring, a fisherman with over a decade of experience in the waters around Yakobi Island. Lohrey, licensed since 2011, left the corporate world to fish Alaska and leads the operation today; Ring passed away in early 2026.

The lodge deliberately stays small — about 90 percent of guests are repeat or referral — and runs three identical 32-foot Allied-built aluminum boats, Apex Predator, The Bounty, and Bandito, for halibut, salmon, lingcod, black cod, and rockfish.

Background as described by the operator on their own website.
