Brown Bear Lodge

Brown Bear Lodge runs wildlife and bear-search excursions and stream-fishing trips out of Hoonah on Chichagof Island, which the lodge notes holds one to two brown bears per square mile — among the highest concentrations anywhere. Tours are flexible by design, with no set itinerary: guests state their preferences, and stops shift with bear movement, feeding habits, and conditions, with guides narrating everything from Tlingit local history to bear behavior.

Stream-fishing trips use provided ultralight spinning gear for Dolly Varden, cutthroat trout, pink, chum, and coho salmon, and steelhead; the lodge's fishing guide has more than 45 years of angling experience.
