Kenai Riverside Lodge sits on the Kenai River at milepost 50.1 of the Sterling Highway in Cooper Landing, about two hours from Anchorage. It is owned and run by Alaska Wildland Adventures, a Girdwood-based company founded in 1977 that owns and operates its own lodges to keep control of quality and environmental practices.
The lodge has 16 cabins with private baths, log-lodge dining, a riverside deck, and a wood-fired sauna; the cabins deliberately have no TVs, phones, or internet. Days center on rafting the Kenai's Class I-II+ water, salmon and trout fishing, and hiking, and the company practices sustainable ecotourism, donating a share of pre-tax profits to local conservation.
