McFarlands Lodge

Thorne Bay, Alaska

Self-guided fishing lodge in Thorne Bay on Prince of Wales Island — every party gets its own log cabin and boat, run by the Lusted family.

About McFarlands Lodge

McFarlands Lodge is a self-guided fishing lodge in Thorne Bay on Prince of Wales Island, founded by Jim and Jeanie McFarland and now run by Philip and Anne Lusted, who moved to Thorne Bay with their seven kids in the summer of 2022; Philip's parents Scott and Cindy pitch in, making it a whole-family operation.

The format is private and unguided: each party gets its own log cabin and its own boat, with boat and vehicle rentals, a floatplane dock and calm, protected waters for fishing, hunting and exploring. The season runs June to mid-September, and the lodge notes some guests have returned annually for 20 years — a budget-friendly alternative to guided packages.
