Robe Lake Lodge is owned and run by Joshua and Tabatha Swierk, who grew up in Maine, met at the University of Maine in Orono, and moved north after a 2004 trip to Alaska — driving over Thompson Pass and through Keystone Canyon sold them on Valdez. They married on the property in 2007 and are raising two daughters there.
The log lodge, built with timber from Interior Alaska, went up in 2008 and opened for business in summer 2009. It overlooks two-mile-long Robe Lake at the foot of the Chugach Mountains between Valdez and Thompson Pass, renting rooms, cabins, or the whole lodge, with summer fishing packages for halibut, salmon and shark on Prince William Sound and winter trips built around skiing and snowmachining.
