About Ultima Thule Lodge

Ultima Thule Lodge sits on the banks of a glacier river deep in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, about 100 miles from the nearest paved road, and is reached by bush plane. The lodge has been owned and operated by the Claus family for three generations, and flying is the heart of the operation: a fleet of planes on tundra tires carries guests out each day to hike, explore, and land in remote corners of the largest national park in the country.

Paul Claus, called the 'king of the bush pilots' by Outside Magazine, has logged more than 35,000 flight hours, most of them in this country. Guests stay in handcrafted cabins with a wood-fired sauna and bathhouse, with the season running May through September.
