Captain Daniel Donich moved to Homer in 1988 from Federal Way, Washington, having fished Puget Sound since age 10 — he says he chose Homer because 'the fish to person ratio was right.' He started in the charter industry as a deckhand on a 60-foot sport fisher, earned his USCG captain's license in 1990, and established Daniel's Personalized Guide Service in 1992.
Donich fishes about 150 days a year on Kachemak Bay and lower Cook Inlet, running halibut, salmon, cod, and combination trips year-round, winter included. His boat, the Optimist, is a 35-foot Bertram sportfisher that takes up to six anglers, with his wife Kim aboard as first mate; guests are welcome to pitch in around the boat.
