Kenai River Recon is owned by Sean Smart, born and raised on the Kenai Peninsula, who spent six years in the US Army before coming home to Soldotna to guide. He is a USCG-licensed merchant mariner and a member of the Kenai River Sportfishing Association and the Kenai River Professional Guides Association; he is joined by guide David Dance, a Wyoming native with 12 years of guiding including Bristol Bay and the Aleutians.
Trips fish the Kenai and Kasilof for king, silver and sockeye salmon, rainbow trout, Dolly Varden and steelhead, May through October, with fly fishing a specialty alongside conventional gear and a coaching approach for all levels. Smart is outspoken about protecting the fishery — careful catch-and-release and concern for declining king runs.
