Rum Runner Charters was started in 1993 by Capt. Chris Conder, who came to Alaska straight out of high school in 1975, earned a marine biology degree while working commercial fishing and diving boats, and settled in Juneau in 1985. He has recently entrusted the operation to new owners Luke Giesey and Adrianne Swan.
The outfit runs private and small-group charters out of Juneau for salmon, halibut and rockfish, plus whale watching and photo tours, fishing three 31-foot gas-powered cabin cruisers — the Rum Runner, the Buccaneer and the Pearl — and backs its whale tours with a money-back guarantee if no whale is found.
