Midnight Sun Safaris

Midnight Sun Safaris is the outfit of Master Guide Coke Wallace, who grew up on the edge of Fairbanks hunting, trapping, and fishing along the Chena and Tanana rivers, began guiding part-time while at UAF, and has run his own outfitting business since 1992. He lives in Healy with his family in a home he built on the historic Stampede Road.

The operation runs horseback hunts for Dall sheep, grizzly, caribou, moose, and predators, primarily in Game Management Units 20 and 13 — horses, in Wallace's telling, let clients cover far more country while carrying an entire camp along. He holds a Preferred Outfitter rating with the NRA and the Foundation for North American Wild Sheep, and says he hires guides on the basis of whether he would want to hunt with them himself.
