Since 2001, McCarthy Ventures LLC has been restoring much of McCarthy's historic downtown and running it as McCarthy Lodge Resort. Guests stay across five properties, including the historic Ma Johnson's Hotel and the Kate Kennedy House, named for the town's most famous madam, and eat at three in-town venues: the Golden Saloon, Salmon & Bear, and the McCarthy Mercantile & Cafe.

The operation is dedicated to preservation of the area. Many staff live in McCarthy year-round, and the lodge helps arrange glacier hikes, flightseeing, rafting and horseback rides.
