skagway, Alaska
Perched at the northern tip of Lynn Canal, Skagway is Alaska's storied gateway to the Klondike goldfields and a world-class king salmon fishery. The sheltered waters of Taiya and Chilkoot Inlets hold strong runs of Chinook salmon from May through August, plus halibut and Dolly Varden. Charter boats launch minutes from the small-boat harbor, making for quick runs to productive grounds. The historic downtown and White Pass & Yukon Route railway draw thousands of cruise visitors, but savvy anglers know the fishing is as good as the scenery.
