About Lazy Otter Charters
Lazy Otter Charters was founded by Mike and Kelly Bender in 1994 and has run small-group glacier and wildlife cruises out of Whittier ever since, along with water taxi service for kayakers, campers, and Prince William Sound adventurers. Trips run March through October and include beach landings the company says no other Sound day cruise offers.
In January 2026 ownership passed to sisters Tammy, Michelle, and Jennifer Lang, all U.S. Coast Guard 100-ton licensed captains with years in marine tourism, making the company women-owned. The Langs say they aim to keep the operation's warmth, reliability, and intimacy while expanding custom trip offerings.
