Phillips Cruises & Tours dates to 1958, when Brad and Helen Phillips began operating in Prince William Sound aboard the M/V Gypsy, an 85-foot vessel lost in the 1964 earthquake. The company pioneered high-speed catamarans in Alaska in 1985 and created the 26 Glacier Cruise in 1987, retracing the route of the historic Harriman Expedition. Brad Phillips sold the business to Bob Neumann in 2003.
Today the Alaskan-owned company sails four high-speed catamarans out of Whittier — Klondike Express, Glacier Quest, Bravest, and the Chugach Express, which arrived in 2024 — on glacier and wildlife day cruises through the Sound.
