Wrangell sits at the southern end of Tongass National Forest — the largest temperate rainforest in North America — surrounded by protected salt water that holds all five Pacific salmon species from May through September, plus halibut, shrimp, and a variety of bottomfish. The town's calm, island-sheltered waters mean shorter runs to productive fishing ground compared to more exposed Southeast Alaska ports. Local charter fleets run full-day trips targeting king salmon in spring, pinks and chums through midsummer, and silvers in late summer and fall.
