Breakaway Adventures started jet boat tours in Wrangell — founder Eric Yancey, who moved to town in 1978 to work in the timber industry, launched the company in 1989 with a single boat. Spenser Stavee, a lifelong Wrangell resident who skippered for Breakaway starting in 2013, bought the business in 2021.
The company runs jet boats up the Stikine River and out to Anan for bear viewing and LeConte Glacier, plus whale watching, fishing trips on a 26-foot heated boat, and water taxi service to Petersburg and Prince of Wales Island.
