Hoonah, Alaska

Hoonah sits on the north shore of Chichagof Island, 40 miles west of Juneau across Icy Strait. The town of around 800 is the largest Tlingit community in Alaska and the gateway to some of Southeast's finest king salmon and silver salmon fishing in Icy Strait and Port Frederick. Brown bear hunting on Chichagof Island — one of the densest brown bear populations in the world — brings hunters from across the globe. Hoonah is also home to Icy Strait Point, a cruise port built to preserve the town's authentic character.
