About Katmai Lodge

Katmai Lodge dates to 1979, when its founders used John and Mary Tallekpalek's cabin on a Native allotment down the Alagnak River as a base camp; a lease on the present site followed in 1980, with the first building supplies barged from Seattle to Naknek. The property has since grown to 18 buildings, including eight guest lodges, running all-inclusive summer seasons with year-round caretakers through the winter.

Current owner Robert Follman was a guest for 25 years before buying the lodge in November 2014, and has kept its home-away-from-home feel as the stated aim. Fishing centers on Pacific salmon, Arctic char, and trout — fly or spin — with wildlife photography and bear viewing on the side.
