Tikchik Narrows Lodge has run fly-out fishing trips from the heart of Wood-Tikchik State Park since 1969, when Bob and Gayle Curtis founded it. Former employee Bud Hodson bought the lodge in 1986 and operated it for 36 years before handing it to current owner Andy Angstman in 2022. Angstman was born and raised in Bethel, about 100 miles west of the lodge, and his family kept a cabin on Chauekuktuli Lake, upstream of Tikchik, for nearly 20 years.
Reachable only by floatplane, the lodge fields five float planes and more than 40 boats to fish Bristol Bay waters — all five Pacific salmon plus rainbow trout, Arctic char, grayling, Dolly Varden, lake trout, and northern pike — with bear viewing and shore lunches worked in.
