Waterfall Resort occupies a 52-acre former salmon cannery site on the western shore of Prince of Wales Island. The cannery was established in 1912 and set an Alaska record in 1936 with 220,000 cases of silver salmon; after it closed in the early 1970s, Edward "Des" Moore and family converted it into a fishing lodge, and the Ketchikan-based Waterfall Group has owned it since 1980, restoring the historic buildings and cabins.
Guests fish for king and silver salmon, halibut, and lingcod from a fleet of 27 custom-built cabin cruisers with U.S. Coast Guard-licensed guides at a one-to-one crew-to-guest ratio, staying in lodge rooms, boardwalk cabins, and converted cannery buildings.
