Lynn Canal is the longest and deepest fjord in North America, stretching roughly 90 miles from Skagway south to Juneau, and Haines sits at its northern head where the Chilkat River delivers one of the larger king salmon runs in Southeast Alaska. Saltwater charters out of Haines target halibut and kings in spring, with pinks and chums through July and silvers in August and September, against a backdrop of glacier-draped mountain ranges dropping directly into the water. Freshwater options on the Chilkat and Chilkoot rivers extend the season and species range considerably.
